Power Hopper

Power Hopper is a free website that helps homes and businesses in Texas retail-choice areas, including Oncor and CenterPoint service areas, compare electricity plans from multiple providers, read the plan facts, and start enrollment online. Power Hopper is a PUCT-registered electricity broker, registration number BR260201. The registration identifies the company with the Public Utility Commission of Texas and is not an endorsement.

Texas has a competitive retail electricity market in many areas. In those areas, the wires and poles that deliver power are run by a regulated utility such as Oncor or CenterPoint Energy, while the electricity itself is sold by retail electricity providers. Households and companies can choose among those providers, and each provider offers several plans with different prices, contract lengths and terms. Comparing them can take time, because the details are spread across many separate documents and websites.

Power Hopper brings those choices into one place. A visitor enters a ZIP code and sees electricity plans from multiple providers available at that location. For each plan, Power Hopper shows the plan facts that matter, including the price per kilowatt-hour at common usage levels, the contract term, the type of plan, and the key terms listed in the provider’s Electricity Facts Label. Visitors can read the plan facts side by side before they decide, and they can start enrollment online when they find a plan that fits.

Using Power Hopper does not cost the customer anything. The service is free to homes and businesses. Power Hopper focuses on clear information, so people can understand what they are signing up for before they commit to a contract.

Who Power Hopper helps: homeowners and renters who are moving or whose current plan is ending, small businesses that want to review commercial electricity options, and anyone who wants to read plan details in plain language. The service covers retail-choice areas, including customers served by Oncor and CenterPoint Energy. Areas where we serve customers include Houston, Fort Worth, Dallas, Arlington and Corpus Christi.

What you can do on Power Hopper: compare electricity plans from multiple providers, filter plans by term length and plan type, open the plan facts for any plan, and begin enrollment online with the provider you choose. Power Hopper does not change your delivery utility. Your local utility continues to maintain the poles and wires, respond to outages and read the meter, whichever electricity provider you choose.
